I see this question asked almost everywhere so I decided I'd give my take on it.

First of all, I have loved Jeeps since I saw that first RED CJ5 when I was about 5 years old (1962) and have owned 5 over the last 20 years however, I have owned several other 4x4's and enjoyed them equally as well.

Although I'm a huge Jeep fan I also love ZUKs, FJ-40s, the original Bronco's and Binders (IH Scouts) just to name a few.

I also believe and have witnessed these different rigs do amazing things so I'm not sure it is really fair to say that Jeeps are the end all be all of the 4x4 community. How you build it and how you wheel it also has alot to do with it. All that being said, these are the things that I think make Jeep Wranglers so great.

1. Jeeps were the original utilitarian 4x4 beginning with the MB that was widely credited by the US Government as a Major Factor in winning WWII. Without the Jeep (formerly Willys) there would be no Sammy's or FJ-40's. Also the Jeep Wrangler is one of the few vehicles recognized the world over (another would be the VW bug Laughing )

2. As Jeeps have been in constant production since the 1940's, there are ton's of them out there. This is an advantage as you can get parts for any model Jeep from aftermarket companies everywhere and due to the shear numbers of Jeeps still on the trails and roads today, Wrangler parts in many cases are cheaper than Parts for other brands. FJ-40's, Scouts and even our beloved Sammy is no more!

3. Because they are catered too by so many companies... you can't destroy a Jeep! In fact, if you were so inclined you could actually build your own Jeep right out of several Jeep catalogs where you can purchase frames, stainless steel tubs, fiberglass tubs and aluminum tubs as well as frames, wiring, lights etc... everything you need to build one from scratch!

4. There is a brotherhood among Jeep owners which is only rivaled by Harley Owners and many of them also own Jeeps.

5. While many websites sponsor yearly runs, Jeep has been providing Jeep Jamborees and Camp Jeep for as long as I can remember. Also, who can forget Easter Jeep Safari? While they do invite other makes to attend, the Jeep is what put Moab on the Map.

OK, I could go on but I'll stop right there. Remember, I'm not saying that the Jeep is better than any other Brand however, unless you've owned one and had the whole Jeep experience... your bad mouthing something you don't have a clue about... which is what killed the production of Sammy's in the US Evil or Very Mad

Jeep was the original and the Wrangler though evolved over the years is still running strong and uninterupted after almost 70 years Shocked there must be a reason for that Wink

A Military General in WWII stated that the Jeep would change history... he really had no idea how right he was Cool

Jeeps are great vehicles. Their wildly popular and held in high regard around the world. You can't deny the popularity of them. Their DD's, trail toys, trailer queens, postal vehicles, family vehicles, heirlooms, and used in commercial applications. The people that drive them are generally speaking great to be around as well as awesome humanitarians. There's a fraternity among them thats as loyal as a family dog. I've had the chance to drive my brother-in-laws on many occasions and have had a good experience with it. The question stands: would I own one? Probably not unless I got a deal that I just couldn't turn down. Why? Well it's pretty simple. To me, their kinda boring because a gazillion people own them and even if they alter them, they still look alike to me. You can dress them up any way that you want and they still look just like a Jeep. Don't get me wrong, I have the utmost respect for the Jeep, because after all it was the Jeep that helped to win WWII and liberate Europe and east Asia. I have a slightly different outlook when it comes to what's my ideal four wheeler. Things that are not common place, that are done well, and are very unique are what peaks my interest. Rigs like a 1960's Land Rover, a Mercedes Uni-mog, an Isuzu Trooper 2-door or Amigo, Dodge Raiders, 1960's Jeep M-715's, Volvo 606's, 5 ton military vehicles. It's those odd, ugly, even grotesque looking rigs that float my boat. And if it's a rare breed of vehicle then it ranks even higher in my book. Yes, owning a Jeep would be a great thing but I don't want to blend into the scenery. I'd rather boldly stand there and make a statement, even if it aint a good vehicle.

The CJs, Wranglers etc are not popular around here. The Wagoneers and Cherokees, Libertys were.

I think its the ragtop in winter that has not made them popular. Same reason I have a tin top rather than a convertible.

I have only been a member on 1 4X4 club and of 30 members there were 2 Jeeps, one was a CJ, I had a old full size Cherokee for part of that time. The rest were full size Blazers, Suburbans, pickups and Broncos.

If I had a dedicated offroad vehicle I would consider a ragtop Jeep Zuk etc.
